West Ham manager David Moyes hopes Kalvin Phillips can make the same impact Jesse Lingard has had at the club.
Phillips joins the Hammers on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.
Lingard scored nine goals in 16 league matches, helping West Ham to a sixth-place finish after signing on loan from Manchester United in January 2021.
“This time a few years ago we had Jesse Lingard, he helped us a lot,” Moyes said.
“I hope Kalvin can have the same impact that Jesse has.”
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has struggled for City opportunities after joining from Leeds United for £45m in July 2022.
He has started only 2 Premier League matches. In total, he played 16 games over an 18-month spell at the Etihad Stadium, although England manager Gareth Southgate continued to select him for the team.
“His history over the years makes me feel like he is a player I would love to have at the club,” Moyes added.
“For a while he was a mainstay of the England team. He’s a very good player. Moving to City didn’t work out as well as he wanted.’
West Ham are sixth in the Premier League this season and Phillips could make his debut against Bournemouth on Thursday night. โปรโมชั่น ufabet
“Everyone has something to prove. Jesse has something to prove, and so does Calvin.”
“There is a big competition at the end of the season. He hopes to be in good form.”
“We are talking about a kid who has very good character. I think now he has a chance to make himself whole again. We have brought another England international into our team. And that is very good.”
